I live in the south for 2 1/2 years and never tried fried chicken and waffles. Not only have I never tried it, I had not even heard of it. In the past several months I have heard or seen several references to fried chicken and waffles. Lo and behold, it is a huge thing in the south! Ever since my husband told me about this great waffle place that actually served chicken and waffles, I knew I had to try it out.

Last night my husband and I went tot he Red Rooster Waffle Company. It is located at Jordan Landing in West Jordan. When you first walk in you immediately noticed the cozy atmosphere, and the giant menu! I did not browse too much though, because I knew I wanted to try the fried chicken and waffles. The question was, did I want it loaded or not? Loaded of course! The waffle came with 2 piece Fried Chicken on a classic waffle, loaded with marinated peppers, jalapeno-onion straws and a spicy BBQ sauce. I know it sounds weird, but sometimes you just have to trust the menu and try it out. When our waffles came, I went all for it and poured the syrup on, and then the spicy bbq sauce. I first sampled the jalapeno-onion straws. These were so good, and I don't know why more restaurants don't use jalapenos that way. My second bite was of just the waffle and syrup itself. I think I would have been happy with just those two alone! The waffle was big, fluffy and sweet and the syrup was perfect sugary goodness. I then took a bite with some fried chicken, the peppers, the jalapeno, the syrup and the bbq sauce all together. Believe it or not, it was amazing! It didn't make sense, but it all fit together perfectly! The chicken itself was amazing on it's own, and even better mixed with all the other componants. I was very happy and satisfied when I was done.

My husband ordered the Peach Melba waffle. Of course he gave me a bite, and it was also very tasty. I cannot wait to go back, and I have a list of things I want to try: the Benedict waffle, the South of the Border (tamale) Waffle, the hotwings, and their waffle fries. They also have great looking dessert waffles!

  1. I can't believe you'd never heard of fried chicken and waffles, especially if you lived down there for 2 1/2 years! It's HUGE down there and there are Chicken and Waffles places all over.

That's cool that they've got one here in Utah, I'll have to try it out sometime. Those jalepeno onion straws sound truly awesome!
