Restaurant Reviews

I am a little behind on these, so I am just going to list them all, which a short description about each place.

Tony Caputos
314 West 300 South
Salt Lake City

Great Italian Restaurant, Deli, and Market. You would not think much by it's location, but it is awesome. It is located just north of Pioneer Park (yes the scary one). The atmosphere is fun, yet classy. White table cloths,  fancy dishes, high class waiters. The food is excellent, they have typical Italian dishes of fish or pasta, and then a great sandwich/ deli menu. Trent and I ordered their antipasto platter. The sausages and pepperoni were some of the best I have ever had. Trent and I also both agree our sandwiches were also the best we have ever had. Trent's sandwich had this roasted red pepper spread on it, which we ended up buying a container of because it was so good. My most favorite part it the market attached to the restaurant. It is filled with all kinds of Italian and European treats and delicacies, including a full meat and cheese counter. I could have spent hours in there! This is also where we bought the red pepper spread.

Right next to Caputos is a small little Belgium Fry hut. Try not to fill up too much when you go to Caputos, because you need to stop by and get an order of Belgium fries, and try out one of their many flavored mayos!

Settebello
Salt Lake City
260 South 200 West
Salt Lake City, UT 84101
Phone: 801.322.3556  |  Fax: 801.322.3557

Awesome Pizzeria. Actually, it is the best pizza I have ever tasted. We are huge fans of Pizzeria 712, but I have to say, Settebello's is better. However, while Settebellos is mainly a Pizzeria, they have some sides or appetizers you can get. These are not as good, in fact Pizzeria 712 kicks them out of the park in that area. My husband and I have been here a few times, and have tried different pizzas each time. So far we have liked them all. It is the traditional wood fire pizza, with a thin crust and crusty bottom. However, Settebello's still manages to make their crust nice and chewy too! Oh, and don't forget to order some gelato when you are done!

Oh, and they have a Vegas location too!

Subzero Ice Cream
2000 West State
801- 701-0606
Pleasant Grove , Utah
(several locations around Utah and out of state too!)

My new favorite ice cream place. They use liquid nitrogen to turn cream and flavorings into ice cream! You pick the amount of cream you want (premium, custard, or even soy!) Because of this, they have some really awesome flavors. There is the normal ones like mint, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, but then they also have flavors like honey, lime, peanut butter, and soda flavors Dr. Pepper, Pepsi and Mountain Dew! Like cold stone, you get to pick mix ins also. I love it.

Cocoa bean Cupcake Cafe
1774 North University Parkway
Provo, Ut
(with locations in Idaho too)

I am really not a fan of the "trendy" places, like all the new smoothie, frozen yogurt, and cupcake places that have just opened. However, I love the Cocoa bean and Cupcake Cafe. Not only are their cupcake delicious and creative, they have the coolest drinks ever. I am not a coffee drinker, but I love the idea of coffee drinks. The Cocoa Bean gives me this. They use a roasted cocoa bean  (as opposed to a coffee bean) to make their drinks. So you can get anything from frappes, to blended drinks, to steamers, to hot chocolate sans coffee! And there is a deal where you can get a drink and a cupcake for $5. Love it.

Amano Chocolate

At our house, we consider ourselves chocolate connoisseurs. We love good chocolate, and am am not talking about Hershey. Some of our favorites are Ghirardelli, Lindt, and Lindor. A few years ago, my husband told me about a chocolate company he heard about, and it was called Amano. He told me that Amano was started by a computer programer (my husbands occupation) and they had won tons of awards all over the world, and, they were based in a town nearby!

Immediately I did some research to find out where I could by some of this amazing Amano chocolate! I found you could order them online, but pay an enormous shipping fee. I refuse to pay shipping on something that is from a town nearby, no matter how good it is. So, I called the number on the site, and this guy answer and was super polite and listed all the places you could by the Amano Chocolate bars. Come to find out, I was talking ot the owner!

I found that you could get them at the BYU bookstore, so the next time I was in town I bought one bar. I was hooked. It is the best chocolate you will ever taste. At first I was intimidated by the small size and large price tag, however, the chocolate is so good that you can only eat a few squares at a time, so it lasts longer and the flavor is so undeniably that you will forget you paid seven dollars for the bar!

What I love about Amano is the unique flavors the chocolate carries. The areas where they harvest their cocoas beans carry natural flavors in the beans, such as orange or clove. When you taste the chocolate, you can tastes hints of these naturally occurring flavors To truly understand what Amano is, you need to visit there site and read what they are all about.

Even better, Amano just opened a factory store. You can go in, and the nice people will let you sample all the chocolate, explain the flavors and how it is all made! Plus you can buy the chocolate bars, plus cocoa nibs and baking chocolate, brownies and other yummy delectables. Their bars come in many different flavors in dark or milk chocolate. The picture above is my two favorites!

Amano Artisan Chocolate
496 South, 1325 West
Orem, UT 84058
10am - 8:00pm

A few local restaurant around Utah County use Amano chocolates in their desserts or hot chocolates. Pizzeria 712 is one of them. I think supporting local business and enjoying high quality food should be part of every one's life, so I encourage you to visit Amano soon!

Restaurant Review: OC Style

I have been a little MIA, and there is actually a good reason for that! I spent seven days in Orange County, Ca. We split our time between our condo in Newport Beach and Disneyland! Thanks to my parents, we were able to eat at some awesome places. So, instead of doing a review on each separate place, I am just going to do one big post. I think enough people make this same trip, so I am hoping this will help you out next time you head to Orange County!

New York Upper Crust Pizza
28051-B Greenfield Dr.
Laguna Niguel, CA, 92677

We came here for lunch. It was some of the best pizza I have had. I loved that you could get pizza by the slice, or do take out and get a whole pizza. Between all of us, we sampled almost every kind, and they were all good. They also had a really good antipasti salad, and fun desserts!

Sushi Zen Bistro
1875 Newport BlvdCosta Mesa, CA 92627

Awesome sushi and great appetizers! Also, the salmon entree was really good too. The service is a little slow, and the lighting is really dim and dark. not such a great place to take kids. They did have high chairs, but now kids menu. However, it is worth trying, but go during the day when the sunlight is coming in through the windows!

Ruby's Diner
All over Orange County

If you find yourself in the OC you have to go to Ruby's Diner.  It is a chain, so there are several locations you can choose from. Their breakfast was amazing. You have to try the cinnamon roll french toast, or the corned beef and hash. Even their basic bacon eggs and potatoes were cooked to perfection. The service is awesome and it is very kid friendly! They also have beignets... with the option to dip in either chocolate or frosting... so good!

Jack in the Box
All over

Okay, you know I can't go to California without visiting Jack in the Box! It is a fun, cheap meal that you can't get in Utah (and some other states). Get anything, it is all good.

Disneyland

Stage Door Café
Frontierland

Home of the best corn dog you may ever eat. Okay, not really, but it is a good corn dog and it is huge. My husband and I both thought it was a little greasy, but the hot dog in the inside was really good. It is also a cheap eat when it comes to Disneyland food. For under six dollars you can get a corn dog and either chips or apple slices. For a few dollars more you can add a drink. This place also serves kids power packs. This consists of yogurt, fish crackers, cheese stick, apple slices and  choice of small Low-fat milk, orange juice, or small bottled water for also under 6 dollars. Many places around Disneyland and California Adventure sell the kids power pack and I was a big fan.

French Market Restaurant
New Orleans Square

My parents actually ate here, and they just raved about how good the salads were. We also had a pretty awesome piece of chocolate cake. Although it is not advertised, they also sell the mint juleps. This is one memory I have of Disneyland, we always got a mint julep. There is another place that is kind of hidden called the Mint Julep Bar. This is probably the place they would prefer you to buy the mint julips, but it is not always open. The Mint Julep bar also had some tasty looking french desserts

Cafe Orleans

New Orleans Square

Great place to get gumbo, the legendary Monte Cristo sandwich and beignets (though there is a better place in downtown Disney to get those). If you haven't noticed, we really liked the New Orleans area when it came to food. I think it was by far the best. However, if you didn't already know, Disney food is overpriced and it is pretty good food, but it is not the best you will ever have.

Random Cart Food not to miss: You have to get a churro and popcorn. It is just something you have to do. Also, do not get ice cream in the park! It is Dreyers and you will see people walking around with it and it looks so good. Resist the temptation, and instead go out to Downtown Disney and get the Haagan Daz instead, and you can thank me later.  However, the Disneyland Bakery that is next to the ice cream and candy shop looked really good, so maybe check that out and let me know.

California Adventure

Ariel's Grotto

Paradise Pier

This is also known "Ariel's Disney Princess Celebration" If you have a little girl aged 2-10, this is a must. It is pretty expensive, but you will enjoy yourself so much, you'll forget about the money. Each princess comes around to your table and your little girl can meet her, get a picture with her, and get her autograph. It was a lot of fun. The food was pretty good too! You get a shared appetizer with cheeses, breads, pickles, jellos, salad and cut up veggies. For dinner you get to choose from 6 or so different entrees. If you go, the best thing to get is either the Red Fish or the Tri-Tip. Those by far were the best. Also, the toddler mac and cheese was really good. For dessert they bring out a tray of several different desserts. The best part was the white chocolate shell and Ariel picture... all edible!

Pacific Wharf Cafe

Golden State

Best place to get soup in a sourdough bread bowl, it is almost like being on the Warf in San Fransisco They also have these really cute mickey mouse sugar cookies that are fun for the kids (or kids at heart).

Downtown Disney

Jazz Kitchen Express

Really good beignets and jalapeno bacon potato salad. Other then that the food is so-so. However, it is fast and you can sit outside and eat.

And as I mentioned before... do not miss out on the Haagan Daz!

And now I am headed off to chaperone a Girl's Camp, where we will be making some tin foil dinners, peanut butter smore's, and dutch oven cooking! If I think about it, I'll take pictures and brag.

Restaurant Review: Scaddy's

Scaddy's
1750 W Main
Lehi, UT 84043

This restaurant is originally located near the University of Utah Campus. My husband and I had heard how good their burgers were, but we also heard it is a big Ute (University of Utah) hang out. Being the BYU fans that we are, we stayed away.

About a week ago, we heard they were opening a BYU friendly location in Lehi! For all you locals, it is connected to the new gas station with the drive up window. So, as soon as they opened for business, I had my husband pick up some dinner on his way home from work.

I ordered the Blaze Burger, which consists of fried jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, along with the typical hamburger toppings. I also ordered a side of onion rings. At first glance, the burger looked big and messy. This was only confirmed when I began to eat it. I told my husband, it was like I was in a Carl's Jr. commercial, it was dripping every where. Please do not think this is a bad thing, it just added to the awesomeness of the burger. It was so flavorful and spicy, the toppings were perfectly portioned, and the bun was soft and homemade like. This is something I would get again.

The onion rings and potential, but fell a little short of perfection. The coating on the rings was the perfect texture and flavor, but the coating was no longer attached to the actual onion. I assume this is a rookie mistake... all new restaurants (even chains )have some growing pains. But, as I said, they were still good and I could definitely see them being top notch.

The most dissapointing would have to be the fries. They tasted like greasy In and Out fries. I do not like In and Out and their undercooked, limp fries. These were uncercooked, limp and extremtly greasy. I am hoping this is another "growing pain" and that they will get better over time.

Over all, we really enjoyed our burgers, and even the onion rings! It is worth checking out again sometime in the future.

If you check out the Menu for Scaddy's, they appear to have a decent looking breakfast menu, which I am dying to try sometime! I will let you know when I do!

Restaurant Review: The M Resort Buffet Studio B

M RESORT•SPA•CASINO
12300 Las Vegas Blvd. S
Henderson, Nevada 89044
P 702 797 1000

Early this week my family made a quick three day trip to Las Vegas. Before we left, my husband asked around, and looked up reviews for the best buffet in Las Vegas. He found that the M Resort Studio B Buffet was by far the best rated, so of course we had to check it out!

The first thing you notice when you walk in is the dessert bar. It was all I could do not to have dessert first. It was almost overwhelming. The picture does not even come close to all he different desserts offered (and yes, those were all mine). It also had a full gelato bar.

Besides the desserts, my favorite thing about the buffet was the set up. It was one long winding counter buffet filled with everything you could think of. American foods, seafood, Mexican, Italian Greek, and Asian foods. It was fun to go through and taste things I normally do not eat like paella, stuffed grapes leaves and oysters. There was a whole Asian food section with all types of Thai foods that looked so good. Unfortunately, I didn't reach that section until the end, so my stomach would not let me sample all I wanted to.

Our favorites by far: The fried shrimp, lamb, kielbasa, green curry,  short ribs, and all the desserts of course. On our way home from Vegas, my husband and I were already discussing our next trip to The M Resort Studio B Buffet,

Restaurant Review: Thanksgiving Point Deli and Bakery

Thanksgiving Point Deli and Bakery
3003 N Thanksgiving Way
Lehi, UT 84043

About a week ago my family and I ate lunch at the Thanksgiving Point Deli and Bakery. The food was delicious (especially the clam chowder and their french fries), though a little expensive. While we were there we noticed their dessert case. Everything in it looked delicious. My husband and I really wanted to get something, but were already feeling guilty about spending too much money just on lunch. So, the following Tuesday evening, we found ourselves back at Thanksgiving Point and my husband decided to stop in and get some desserts before we went home.

This is what he came home with. And the best part? Everything was only 1.50 each. It was all very good, but not quite as good as Eliane’s French Bakery. We had a peanut butter cup brownie, an apple tart of some kind, a chocolate mousse thing, and tiramisu. Our favorite by far was the chocolate mousse, and my next favorite was the peanut butter cup brownie. The mouse was rich and dark, and the strawberry was even dipped in dark chocolate! The tiramisu was a little disappointing, it did not have a lot of flavor, and the cocoa on the top was a little intense.

This will be a place we will visit again soon, especially when we want a fun cheap dessert.

Restaurant Review: Eliane French Bakery

Eliane French Bakery
1750 South State Street, Orem, UT 84097
(801) 764-9800‎

My husband has found a gem! A few months ago my husband discovered Elaine's and had to go in. he was so impressed by the breads and the desserts, he knew this place would be a keeper. Last week my husband had to do some work in Provo, and decided to make a trip to Elaine's. He came home with three desserts and a baguette.

The three desserts were a chocolate cigar, pear cake, and a triple layered cake. The quality of the chocolate and the cream was astounding. The chocolate was rich, dark, and smooth, while the cream was light, creamy and flavorful. Everything about the desserts was light and delcious. They actually lasted over 24 hours, which was impressive because I just wanted to eat them all in one sitting.

The baguette was also very good. Crusty on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. I am excited to try more of their breads (and desserts)!

If you are ever in the Orem area, you must stop by and grab a treat!. I have also heard their sandwiches are amazing too!

Chick-fil-A: For the Win/For the Loss

My son comes home with from school with a plethora of free kids meals to various places. We all love going out to eat, including the kids, so my son insists we use every single coupon A recent one was a free kids meal at Chick-fli-A.

We don't go to Chick-fli-A a lot, only because the nearest one is about 20 miles away, and I am more of a burger person. However, I do enjoy their chicken ever so often. So, on Friday after school I packed the kids up and headed out on a small road trip. I was very happy when I pulled up and realized they had a play place! And although it was very crowded, there was no wait to order, and the food was given to me as soon as I was done paying. I ordered three kids meals, one for each kid, and I shared!

For the Win!

-No lines
-Fast food
-The casheir carried my tray out for me, and got me a high chair
-Lady walking around handing out free mints
-Every time you said "thank you" to one of the employees, they would answer back, "my pleasure"
-Plastic place mats that came with the kids meal that had sticky backs and stuck to the table, seriously ingenious.
-The "toy" was a book on cd, and they gave us three different ones instead of three of the same. My kids are really into books on cd right now, so we were all excited, especially since we got three! Really, other fast food places should realize if you are ordering more then one kids meal, it would be nice to get different toys.
-Good chicken
-Play place

For the Loss

-For drinks I ordered 2 sodas and an apple juice. I asked for one root beer, and one diet dr. pepper. I got two root beers instead. Boo
-Foutain drinks are kept behind the counter, so you have to ask for refills
-No ketchup pump, only ketchup packets... which means I had to squeeze ketchup our of 20 different pouches.
-The cashier asked what sauces I wanted, and I was really excited to try their spicy sauce, well when I got to the table I had no sauces in the bags! I know I could have gone and asked, but I was too lazy.
-Their chicken nuggets are really little, and you only get four. Both my kids asked for more when they were done. Luckily they do give you a lot of waffle fries. Both kids were hungry when we came back home.
-Worst of all, their play place did not include tables, and had a giant sign on the door: No Food or Drink. There was two tiny benches for parents to sit on while the kids played. So, we actually had to eat, then clean up, then move to the play place, and I sat there bored for 20 min, squished between  2 other moms and like 30 wild kids playing. Honestly, this is Utah. A place full of children and mom's looking for cheap fun.

Restaurant Review: Red Rooster Waffle Company

Red Rooster Waffle Company
801) 280-4074
7742 Campus View Dr.
West Jordan, UT 84084

I live in the south for 2 1/2 years and never tried fried chicken and waffles. Not only have I never tried it, I had not even heard of it. In the past several months I have heard or seen several references to fried chicken and waffles. Lo and behold, it is a huge thing in the south! Ever since my husband told me about this great waffle place that actually served chicken and waffles, I knew I had to try it out.

Last night my husband and I went tot he Red Rooster Waffle Company. It is located at Jordan Landing in West Jordan. When you first walk in you immediately noticed the cozy atmosphere, and the giant menu! I did not browse too much though, because I knew I wanted to try the fried chicken and waffles. The question was, did I want it loaded or not? Loaded of course! The waffle came with 2 piece Fried Chicken on a classic waffle, loaded with marinated peppers, jalapeno-onion straws and a spicy BBQ sauce. I know it sounds weird, but sometimes you just have to trust the menu and try it out. When our waffles came, I went all for it and poured the syrup on, and then the spicy bbq sauce. I first sampled the jalapeno-onion straws. These were so good, and I don't know why more restaurants don't use jalapenos that way. My second bite was of just the waffle and syrup itself. I think I would have been happy with just those two alone! The waffle was big, fluffy and sweet and the syrup was perfect sugary goodness. I then took a bite with some fried chicken, the peppers, the jalapeno, the syrup and the bbq sauce all together. Believe it or not, it was amazing! It didn't make sense, but it all fit together perfectly! The chicken itself was amazing on it's own, and even better mixed with all the other componants. I was very happy and satisfied when I was done.

My husband ordered the Peach Melba waffle. Of course he gave me a bite, and it was also very tasty. I cannot wait to go back, and I have a list of things I want to try: the Benedict waffle, the South of the Border (tamale) Waffle, the hotwings, and their waffle fries. They also have great looking dessert waffles!

Resturaunt Review: Spark

Spark Restaurant and Lounge

86 N University Ave Downtown
(Bottom of Wells Fargo Building)

Provo, UT 84601 / 801-701-6780

My husband and I are big fans of Spark Restaurant and Lounge. A few years ago, my husband and I were discussing that someone or some restaurant needed to specialize in non-alcoholic specialty drinks. Then Spark opens up and they do exactly that. We have only been there twice, but I have been impressed both times.

The first time we went I ordered one of their bottled specialty drinks: red cola. It was the best cola drink I have ever had. It had a little spice to it which was awesome. Trent ordered a house-made drink: the Pomegron. It is made with pomegranate puree, tarragon, lime and seltzer water. It was not my favorite drink mainly because I do not like tarragon, but my husband enjoyed it very much.

Along with our drinks we ordered two appetizers: a shrimp appetizer and dueling edamame. They no longer serve the shrimp (at least it is not on their menu) which is so sad because it was seriously the best shrimp I have ever eaten. The shrimp was big, plump and juicy and the seasonings were spot on. The dueling edamame is half edamame with Hawaiian lemon salt  and the other half sautĂ©ed with bacon . Bacon goes well with everything, and the lemon salt was light and refreshing compared to the salty rich bacon edamame. I am a huge fan.

This second time we went with some friends. For drinks we ordered double berry martini made with raspberry and blackberry purees, seltzer water with berry garnish. This was my favorite drink so far. Sometimes when you order berry brinks they can be a little too bitter or too sweet, this was absolutely spot on. It was creamy and cool. My husband ordered a peach bellini made with white peach puree and seltzer water. My husband enjoyed it, but he admitted mine was better.

For appetizers we ordered fried pork lollipops and pommes frites. The pork lollipops were really good (though something you could copy and make at home). I always enjoy things with sauces so was pleased to try out the jalapeno tartar, orange sweet chili, lemon soy vinegar dipping sauces. They were all delicious and I ended up dipping my pommes frites in them. I was a little disappointed by the jalapeno tarter though, it was more tarter and not very much jalapeno. The pommes frites (fancy name for french fries) were also very good. These came with dipping sauces as well: garlic aioli and blue cheese sauce, which were thoroughly enjoyed. Over all, Spark is very good with their drinks, appetizers, and desserts.

For entrees we ordered the butternut squash ravioli made with roasted hazelnuts, guajillo puree, leek cream, grana padano and fried leeks. This is was not my favorite. The ravioli and the nuts were very good, but the butternut squash was way too sweet for my liking, and I did not enjoy the cinnamon flavor that accompanied it. It was not horrible (I still ate all of it), but I probably would not order it again. We also ordered lemon and chives risotto with rock shrimp and Parmesan cheese. I really like the risotto, it was so creamy and comforting. I have never had risotto so I cannot compare it, but I would eat it again. Lastly is the pan seared salmon with warm truffle potato salad, baby arugula , beets, and lemon beurre blanc. I did not try the salmon (though it looked delicious), but the potato salad was excellent. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't taste the truffles. I have never had one before, so I was thinking it would be this wonderful experience, but I think the pieces were too small to really catch the flavor.

Over all I really enjoy Spark and the fine dining atmosphere. However, I do not think I will order an entree next time. I think I will just stick to the drinks and appetizers.

If you are interested in visiting Spark, they do have lunch special every day that include an appetizer, entree and dessert for $10. If you become a fan on facebook or twitter they post the lunch special daily.

Resturaunt Review: Center Street Grill Logan, Ut

Center Street Grill
Corner of Main and Center Street
Logan, Utah

My husband and I were visiting family in Logan, UT this week. It happened to fall on our anniversary so we were able to sneak out of the house and get some lunch. Since the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed, we decided to hit up the Center Street Grill. We had eaten there before, and were impressed by their selection of hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, wraps and shakes.

This time around I got the Spicy Jalapeno Burger while my husband got the Steakhouse Burger. The prices for the burgers are a little high (around $8), but they do include fries. The fries remind me a little of McDonalds fries, except more fresh tasting. They were pretty good, and so was their housemade fry sauce.

The hamburgers were good, but not excellent. Both my husband and I had to add some salt, which greatly enhanced the flavor. The meat was high quality and great tasting, just not favored well. I ordered my jalapeno burger without pineapple, and it was just the right amount of spicy. However, it seemed to be missing some kind of sauce (maybe it was missing the pineapple?). I actually prefer the Jalapeno six dollar burger at Carl's Jr.  My husband hamburger was similar. Although the meat was excellent, it seemed to be missing something. The texas toast used as the bun was actually my favorite part of his hamburger.

The absolute best thing about Center Street Grill is their drink station. They have every flavor or Pepsi products (including Apple Beer!), along with several different flavorings. I first had Diet Dr. Pepper with vanilla mixed in (my absolute favorite). Then I tried Diet Pepsi with raspberry which was also really good.

Overall we enjoyed our food. We felt like we do make better hamburgers and fries at home, but I think with a little tweaking (or maybe a different cook) their hamburgers could be excellent because the meat they use is such high quality! I would go back just for the drink station though.

Restaurant Review: The Pizza Pie Cafe

Pizza Pie Cafe
2235 North University Parkway
Provo, UT 84604-1543 -
(801) 373-5561
Price for dinner buffet 6.99. Price for children ages 5-12: 3.99. Price for children ages 2-4: 2.99. Under 2: free!

My husband and I have heard so much about the new Pizza Pie Cafe in Provo so we decided to check it out last night when we were in Provo. I never have lived in Rexburg, ID, but apparently the Pizza Pie Cafe is very similar to Craigos, and I believe they are owned by the same people.

I am not going to go through and give a full review because a friend of mine has already done that He did such a good job that I feel inadequate to do so myself. If you are interested, you can read the review here.

However, I did enjoy eating there, I am a big fan of pizza buffets. For you Provo natives, it is so much better than Doc's Pizza, and a much more enjoyable atmosphere. My favorite was actually the pasta buffet, it was a lot better then other pasta buffets I have had (like at Brick Oven. Oh and the pizza is better than Brick Oven too). There were several different types of pasta and sauces. I tried the spinach fettuccine with Alfredo on one half, and spicy sausage on the other. They do a good job of cooking the pasta just right.

The pizza was really good, but it isn't the best pizza I have ever had. It was more fun just to try out all the different kinds! I loved their selection of dessert pizza as well. My favorite was the oreo pizza, and the cookie dough pizza.  It also has a salad bar, but it looked sad and pitiful. Like my husband said, "why would you eat salad when you could eat pizza". I completely agree.

Although I liked The Pizza Pie cafe very much, I do not think I will go running back soon. My husband and I love to go out to eat, and try out different restaurants, so we only repeat our very favorite ones. However, I do occasionally get a craving for a good pizza buffet, so I will for sure go to the Pizza Pie cafe to fulfill it.

On a side note: The Pizza Pie Cafe is located in the old Tony Roma's building. The whole time I was eating I thought, "wow I could be eating delicious ribs right now". Still mad they closed.

Restaurant Review: Hibachi House

Hibachi House
1438 Main Street Ste 102, Lehi, UT 84043
801-341-5008
(behind Texas Roadhouse)

Trent and I have been wanting to try out the Hibachi house since it opened, and tonight we finally did. I was not expecting much, because it seemed like one of those over Americanized Japanese restaurants. I am happy to say I was pleasantly surprised! The menu is similar to Tepanyaki, but much cheaper. Their entrees included chicken, shrimp, fillet minion, salmon and scallops, along with several appetizers, sides, and about 15 different kinds of sushi rolls.

It is set up like fast food, where you order and pay, then they call your number when it is ready. The first thing I noticed is they serve you in a styrofoam take home box. Some people may not like, but it was so convenient. They give you a lot of food, and this saves you the trouble of having to go ask for one!

Trent and I ordered one entree that came with veggies, fried noodles, shrimp, salmon and scallops, and we also got a 6 piece spicy crunchy salmon roll, and a side order of fried noodles. It came to 23 dollars and it fed both Trent and I, plus we brought enough home to feed the kids too!

The food was really good, in fact, Trent and I both agreed it was better than Tepanyaki. Everything was cooked really well, and the sauce they used on the sea food and veggies was amazing. It was a little bit sweet but savory at the same time. The rolls were my favorite. Our spicy crunchy salmon roll had the right amount of spice, the flavor was excellent and the nori was not too chewy (which is a pet peeve of mine). The fried noodles were pretty good, though Tepanyaki definitely wins in that category.

Over all we were really pleased to find a great Japanese restaurant so close to home! We will be going back again soon to try more rolls, their fried rice, and of course the miso soup. Even better, there is always a coupon!

Recipe Gold Mine!

Another favorite place to find recipes is foodnetwork.com. My favorite thing to do is watch food network, and then when I see a recipe I like, I can go find it online! Foodnetwork.com also has difficulty ratings and overall recipe ratings so you know if you are making something easy that tastes good, or hard and tastes bad.

My favorite show and my least favorite show on food network is Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. If you have not seen it before, check it out. Guy Fieri travels around the US looking for interesting or popular diners, drive ins, and dives. It is my dream and goal in life to visit these places. As I mentioned, I love watching this show, and you can get some great ideas of places to visit and good recipe ideas from it. I also hate watching this show because it makes me hungry for things I should not be eating.

While looking for a recipe online tonight, I found the top 100 recipes from Guy Fieri's travels. This is great because I did not know there were any published recipes from the places he went! In my eyes, this is a recipe gold mine! Go here to check them out!

If you are in the Utah area, Guy Fieri visited several places in and around Salt lake City. My husband and I have been to a few and have really enjoyed the food. I encourage you to check them out too!

Blue Plate Diner 2041 S 2100 E Salt Lake City

I Just Don't Get It

I do not understand the In-and-Out Burger hype. Go ahead, boo and throw soggy french fries at me, I expect it, but just hear me out.

Two new In-and Out Burgers have opened in my area, with a third on the way. People are going crazy, and apparently some people even lined up the night before to sleep in the cold! I do not understand this, why would people line up overnight for soggy french fries and good, but not great hamburgers?

My specific complaints about In-and-Outs food start with the fries. I grew up in California and had an In-and- Out 3 miles from my house. I have eaten there a lot. Only once have I actually enjoyed the fries, and it was because they were over-cooked. In-and-Out under cooks their fries, almost to the point where they are raw. And, like 5 seconds after you get them they are cold and limp. No thank you!  I love fries, and I have a friend who REALLY loves fries and eats them wherever she goes. Neither of us like In-and -Outs fries, so that is saying something.  My husband and I make homemade fries a lot in our deep fat fryer. We use fresh potatoes, we double fry them, and they are amazing.

My complaints about In-and-Out's food sort of ends there. I do not mind their burgers or shakes. While I would eat them and be just fine with it, I would not go out of my way or wait in line to get them.  Good, but not great is my opinion.

I have heard many excuses for why people like in-and-out. My least favorite, "It's fresh!". Okay people, fresh does not equal good. Poop is often referred to as fresh, would you eat that?   Its like the people who think all organic food is healthy (like organic potatoes chips or cookies). Yes In-and-Out uses real fresh potatoes, fresh, not frozen beef, and real ice cream in their shakes, but what they do with them does not make it taste good. To me, food is something to enjoy, especially when going out to eat. Utah has some awesome burger places, Burger Supreme, Crown Burger, Regal Burger, JCW's, Iceburg, Coney's.... Do they use fresh ingredients? I honestly don't know, but their burgers and fries are delicious. If I want "fresh" food that actually tastes good, I just make it at home!

I have actually heard two valid excuses of why someone my like In-and Out. Someone told me they liked In-and-Out because was not something readily available, and because of this it was fun and exciting. I totally get this. I love Jack-In-the-Box! We do not have any in Northern Utah. Anytime we are anywhere near a Jack-in-the-box I make my husband stop. Why? Their food isn't any better than Burger King or Carl's Jr. Just the fact that I cannot have it when I want it makes it amazing. Plus the idea that you can order breakfast all day makes me happy. Do I ever order breakfast there? No, but the fact that I can if I want to makes me happy. Plus their ciabatta burgers are the best, and their commercials are pretty dang funny.

Second valid excuse, my friend told me "In-and-Out reminds me of home. It is like your mom's cooking, it might not taste great, but it taste like home". I guess my favorite part about that is the part where she says, "it might not taste great..." But a valid excuse nonetheless.

A plea to all In-and-Out lovers. Come to my house. I will feed you fresh burgers and fries. Believe me, you will not be disappointed and it will be better then anything you can get there.

I know a lot of people my not agree to anything I say here, and you might actually hate me now. Just wait until blog about my hatred for all things Cafe Rio.

Food Tip of the Day: Eating Out

If you are not one to go out to eat all the time, then live it up when you do! Do not waste a fun time and money ordering from the "healthy" or "fit" menu. If you normally eat healthy home cooked meals, there is no reason not to splurge every once and a while. Fast food companies have been coming out with healthy choices, and I believe they should be left for the people who have to eat lunch out daily, or do not make home cooked meals. I love fast food places like Burger King or Carl's Jr. who cater to people like me and serve delicious, creative, and unhealthy food! Last night I had the Jalapeno Six Dollar Burger at Carl's Jr. It was the best jalapeno burger I have ever had!

I do enjoy getting a salad here and there when I go out to eat, but it is because I like salad, not because I am trying to eat healthy. If you are not going to enjoy it, then don't buy it. Order those fries, chicken strips, or nachos!

Also, do not waste money on things you can make at home. A lot of chicken or pasta dishes in restaurants are easy enough to copy at home. Get something you wouldn't make for yourself, or that you know is better then you can get at home. Also, chicken is the least cost effective thing to get at a restaurants. Most restaurants over cook their chicken anyway, and who wants to pay for dry, tasteless chicken. Unless it is KFC of course.
